Heat will be on the increase today and Tuesday, but only moderate increases in surface dewpoints and deep vertical mixing up to 6 or 7 thousand feet both afternoons will lead to Min RH values mainly in the low to mid 30s (%). Fairly warm temperatures in the mid levels of the atmosphere will put a lid on most of the convection (showers and thunderstorms) today and Tuesday. However, select areas of orographic forcing and the passage of a subtle upper level disturbance will help to form a few mid afternoon to early evening showers and thunderstorms across the Laurel Highlands and South-Central Mountains. A few of the thunderstorms later this afternoon could produce brief wind gusts of up to 45 mph. Rainfall accumulations should average below 0.10" (and most locations likely stay dry). A strong cold front will bring showers and scattered thunderstorms on Wednesday, some of which could be severe in the afternoon and early evening. Cooler, more seasonable conditions will follow for the end of the week and into Memorial Day weekend. .REST OF TODAY... Sky/Weather.........Sunny (15-25 percent). Max Temperature.....Around 88. We can be reached at (985) 649-0357 if you have questions or concerns with this forecast. .DISCUSSION... Fire weather concerns are limited as moisture continues to move back into the area leading to gradually increasing rain chances. Showers and storms should mainly be limited to areas west of the I-55 corridor today and Tuesday, spreading eastward toward the I-59 corridor midweek, and then becoming more area-wide Thursday through the weekend. Over the next 7 days forecast rainfall totals vary from 2-3 inches across northwestern areas to less than an inch for extreme southeast Louisiana and much of the Mississippi coast, though obviously point-specific totals will depend on exact locations of any heavier thunderstorms. For most of the area, for most of the week, minimum humidities are likely to be 60 percent or higher every day. .QUESTIONS... 1) Probability intensity and duration of fog possible Monday night into Tuesday morning Not seeing any strong indications for fog Tuesday morning. Can't rule out some patchy/light ground fog, but the chance of dense fog is very low. 2) Will there be a sea breeze Doesn't appear to be a well-defined seabreeze thanks to persistent/breezy SE winds. Rather, winds pick up mid/late morning and remain out of the southeast through the afternoon/evening without any significant wind shift. .TODAY... Sky/weather.........Partly sunny (60-70 percent). A tightening pressure gradient between this high and low pressure across the plains states will lead to strengthening winds, especially west of the Mississippi River. Exercise Caution headlines will remain in effect through tonight. As moisture increases across the region, he chance of daily showers and storms will gradually increase, with the best chances later in the week as a weak front approaches the area. Some storms will be capable of producing locally hazardous winds and waves. .REST OF TONIGHT... Sky/weather.........Mostly cloudy (70-80 percent). Chance of pcpn......0 percent.
