A cold front has shifted winds from the north at the site this morning but winds are predicted to shift around from the east then south through 10 AM with strong southwest winds picking up by noon with gusts up to 50 mph. The cold front will push back into the site between 8 PM and 9 PM bringing a wind shift from the north and good humidity recovery, especially after midnight. It will be quite chilly across the area tonight and patchy frost will be possible by morning if clouds clear out fast enough Tuesday morning. Tuesday will be cooler with lighter winds and higher humidities, though it will remain dry with no chances for rain. .REST OF TODAY... A front has pushed into the fire site early this morning with low clouds hanging up just north of the area. Winds will shift from northeast to easterly, then southerly by 10 AM then southwesterly after noon. Wind gusts will ramp up once the wind direction shifts from a southerly component with gusts to around 50 mph this afternoon. Extreme fire behavior will be possible as humidity levels drop to critically low thresholds this afternoon. Areas of blowing dust will be possible reducing visibilities to under a mile at times. The cold front should push back into the burn site around 8 PM, with strong winds from the north gusting up to 35 to 40 mph at times. This should bring higher humidities with good recoveries overnight as temperatures drop into the upper 30s. Winds on Tuesday will be lighter and temperatures cooler but no precipitation is in the forecast. .REST OF TODAY... Sky/weather.........Partly cloudy (50%) until 1000 then Sunny. Even with that, humidity at the burn site is not expected to drop below 30 percent today. A cold air mass over the region will combine with the intense late May sun angle to cause afternoon clouds and showers. Due to the ridge building over the area, we expect minimal impacts from the showers with low chances of a direct hit from a shower and even if one does hit the burn site this afternoon rain amounts will be minimal. .REST OF TODAY... * Sky/Weather.........Partly cloudy. A few showers and isolated storms may impact the SAR site this morning with another round possible this afternoon. The latest guidance suggests the next round will approach between 2 and 5 pm. It is somewhat of a challenging forecast as showers and storms could pop up outside of that time window. A couple strong storms are possible, but not expecting widespread severe weather today. Broad high pressure will continue to strengthen while pushing further offshore through Tuesday. Spotty showers and thunderstorms remain possible, especially west of the Blue Ridge this afternoon and again Tuesday as multiple pieces of energy pass through. A strong cold front will bring more widespread showers and strong thunderstorms to the area Wednesday into Thursday. Behind this system, temperatures cool with continued on and off rain chances into the weekend as the front stalls nearby. Minimum relative humidity values will fall into the 30 to 45 percent range this afternoon with south to southwesterly winds gusting up to 15 mph. Expect recoveries back around 70 to 90 percent Monday night with 25 to 35 percent values Tuesday afternoon as the ridge of high pressure strengthens further. Rainfall amounts through Wednesday will range between a quarter to a half an inch. Most of this will occur on Wednesday as the front pushes through. .WEDNESDAY... Heat will be on the increase today and Tuesday, but only moderate increases in surface dewpoints and deep vertical mixing up to 6 or 7 thousand feet both afternoons will lead to Min RH values mainly in the mid 30s to low 40s (%). Fairly warm temperatures in the mid levels of the atmosphere will put a lid on most of the convection (showers and thunderstorms) today and Tuesday, but a few storms are possible Tuesday afternoon and evening. Rainfall accumulations should average below 0.10" (and most locations likely stay dry). A cold front will bring showers on Wednesday, mainly in the morning. Cooler, more seasonable conditions will follow for the end of the week and into Memorial Day weekend. .REST OF TONIGHT... Sky/Weather.........Partly cloudy (20-30 percent). High confidence in a fairly seasonal weather pattern with typical afternoon onshore winds. Slightly lower confidence in which afternoon will be windier, but similar southwest winds are expected Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday is expected to be the warmer of the two days, then a slight cooling trend expected Thursday through the weekend as onshore flow becomes more consistent. Confidence in max temperatures is lower, as models have been warmer than actual conditions. If this bias continues, then max temperatures could be up to 4 degrees lower than forecast, which would yield slightly higher minimum relative humidites. .WEDNESDAY... Sky/weather.........Sunny.
