Based on current satellite and surface observation trends, light and variable winds are expected to continue through early afternoon as a frontal boundary remains near stationary from the Texas Panhandle northeastward into south central Kansas, including in vicinity of Clark County. The boundary is expected to begin lifting slightly northward mid to late afternoon, allowing light south-southwest winds to return with winds potentially becoming moderately gusty through early evening. Thunderstorms are expected to develop along and ahead of said boundary late this afternoon, then move east-northeast through this evening. A few of these storms may become severe with large hail and damaging winds the main threat. The potential for a tornado or two cannot be ruled out. A cold front is projected to push southward through western/central Kansas early this evening, turning winds northerly 20 to 30 mph with gusts as high as 40 mph generally after 7-8 PM CDT. .REST OF TODAY... Gusty south to southwest winds will pick up at the site around 11 AM to noon with gusts up to 50 mph spreading in around or shortly after noon. Humidity levels will quickly drop once the southerly winds kick in with critical to extreme fire weather conditions expected. Areas of blowing dust reducing visibility to under a mile will also be a concern through the afternoon. The cold front will push back into the area between 7 PM to 8 PM, and given its farther south proximity this time, it could err on the earlier side of this timeframe. North winds could gust up to 40 mph before decreasing but north winds will remain elevated through much of the night. Good humidity recovery is expected behind the front tonight. Winds will be lighter on Tuesday with cooler temperatures and higher day time humidity levels, though no precipitation is expected. .REST OF TODAY... Sky/weather.........Sunny. The overall pattern will not change much over the next few days with a low in the Bering Sea sending multiple upper level waves through the area. Specifically for the Little Granite Creek burn area, this will likely bring west or west-northwest winds to the site again this afternoon and evening similar to the past two afternoons. One of the upper level waves will move are the burn site early Tuesday morning. However, it looks likely that the Chugach Mountains will block the rain with only sprinkles making it to the burn site. Winds Tuesday have a little more uncertainty to them as the upper level wave will move through on Tuesday. The most likely scenario will be for east to northeast winds late tonight into Tuesday morning that shift to the southwest to west late Tuesday morning through afternoon. .TODAY...
