Based on current satellite and surface observation trends, south- southwest winds are expected to continue through early evening as a near-stationary frontal boundary remains situated from the Oklahoma Panhandle northeast through Clark County up into central Kansas. Because of the proximity of this boundary, wind direction may vary. Thunderstorms continue to develop southwestward along this boundary, potentially affecting Clark County by early evening. A few of these storms may become severe with large hail and damaging winds the main threat. The potential for a tornado or two cannot be ruled out. A cold front is still expected to push southward through western and central Kansas early this evening, turning winds northerly 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 to 45 mph generally after 7-8 PM CDT. Winds are then forecast to gradually subside later overnight into early Tuesday morning. .REST OF TODAY... Sky/weather.........Mostly sunny (25-35 percent). Light northeast winds continue the remainder of the afternoon into early evening, with min RH bottoming out around 80-90% and cloudy skies. Winds increase significantly out of the northeast this evening and overnight at 7-11 mph with gusts of 15-23 mph, strongest in the late evening and early overnight hours. Rain and thunderstorms return this evening into early Tuesday morning, with the best coverage and potential in the 11 PM through 3 AM timeframe. The latest model guidance keeps the heaviest rain and thunderstorms southeast of the fire area, with around 0.3 to 0.5 inches of additional rainfall this evening through early Tuesday, though locally higher amounts cannot be ruled out if any thunderstorms move over the fire area. Tuesday, winds weaken in the early morning as rainfall ends as rainfall ends and turn to the northwest after sunrise. Winds from late Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon have bumped up slightly to 7-11 mph with gusts of 15-20 mph, strongest in the afternoon. Mid-afternoon into sunset Tuesday may (10-20% chance) have widely scattered light rain showers with peak daytime mixing, but little to no additional rain accumulations are expected.
