This is true for everyone visiting the beach, not just those venturing into or near the water. The forecast wave heights presented here are considered experimental. When headed to the beach, always remain vigilant and keep an eye on the waves and currents. * A sneaker wave is a wave running up on shore significantly further than any other recent wave, such that it is a surprise to the casual observer. Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water in the surf zone, flowing outward from shore. * This product is issued once per day after 6 am, with no updates. 501 FZHW52 PHFO 081304 SRFHFO Surf Zone Forecast for Hawaii National Weather Service Honolulu HI 304 AM HST Wed Jul 8 2026 .DISCUSSION... A moderate, medium period south southwest swell continues to generate moderate surf below advisory criteria along south facing shores. This swell energy will gradually lower through the remainder of the week. Expect small surf for south facing shores leading into this weekend, with mainly background energy. Another moderate, long period south southwest swell is expected to fill in Saturday night, but due to the direction of the source, could be more inconsistent than the current swell. Surf along east facing shores will remain rough and choppy through the week as fresh to strong trades hold. A small, moderate period west swell is expected to arrive this weekend and linger into early next week. No significant swells are expected out of the north or northwest.
