Through Friday morning, a series of fronts will bring multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall across the Alaska Panhandle. The first ongoing front is expected to bring 1 to 1.5 inches of rain to the northern half of the panhandle today. The second round of heavy rain is expected to bring an additional 0.5 to 1.5 inches tonight into Friday morning, with the higher end QPF amounts expected for Baranof and Admiralty Islands. More localized lower or higher amounts are possible due to terrain effects. A brief lull in the heavier precipitation amounts is expected during the afternoon hours today. Even higher rain amounts are possible for parts of the central panhandle associated with the front tonight as its low develops inland and moves northward, though there is still a lack of confidence on the exact location of these higher rates. As of now, the highest amounts are expected to move into southern Baranof Island up into Stephens Passage, though some elevated rainfall amounts may still reach Sitka and other parts of the central and northern panhandle. While these forecasted rain amounts are expected to bring rises to small creeks and rivers in the area, there is no flooding anticipated at this time.
