Winds have re-strengthened today with another round of widespread critical to extreme fire weather conditions underway over southwestern, central, and eastern New Mexico. Widespread gusts of 40 to 50 mph have been common with even higher gusts reaching closer to 60 mph in northeastern areas. Winds will decrease in speed over western and central areas this evening, but it will remain gusty in northeastern New Mexico as a cool, moist front rapidly arrives. Cooler temperatures will then be observed in eastern New Mexico Tuesday with breezy conditions being common there. Central locations such as the Rio Grande valley and central mountain chain will observe breezy to windy conditions with marginal or spotty critical fire weather conditions for a couple of hours. Prevailing winds are forecast to reduce more on Wednesday and each following day through the end of the work week while chances for storms increase in eastern parts of the state. ................................................................
