Main forecast focus this afternoon is the potential for widespread thunderstorms, some of which may be severe. A stationary front has settled over the region with winds out of the northeast to the north of the front and out of the southeast to the south of the front. The severe thunderstorms may produce all manner of threats, including cloud to ground lightning and wind gusts of 60 to 75 miles per hour. Excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding will also be a potential threat, mainly over north central and northeastern South Dakota as well as western Minnesota. Afternoon humidity will range from 30 to 60 percent, increasing from south to north.
