Quiet weather is expected today, with highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s and minimum humidity around 25 to 35 percent. Winds will remain light and variable in central North Dakota but become southeast around 10 to 20 mph in the far west later this afternoon and evening. Medium chances (30 to 60 percent) for showers and thunderstorms enter far southwest North Dakota late tonight, gradually spreading northeastward through the day Sunday and persisting into Sunday night. A few storms could produce some stronger wind gusts. Sunday will be breezier with southeast winds around 15 to 20 mph, but minimum humidity is expected to remain around 40 percent or higher. On Monday, a front will move across the state from west to east, shifting winds to the west-northwest and gusting to around 25 to 35 mph. There is timing uncertainty with the front, but it is very likely to clear the western third of the state by mid to late afternoon. The air mass behind the front will be dry, with minimum humidity expected to fall into the 20 to 30 percent range across much of western North Dakota, lowest along the Montana border in the southwest. This may cause near-critical fire weather conditions in parts of western North Dakota Monday afternoon. Tuesday looks to be a windy day for all of western and central North Dakota, with northwest winds around 20 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 35 mph. The strongest winds are generally expected along and to the north and east of the Missouri River, where minimum humidity is forecast to remain above 30 percent. Southwest North Dakota could see humidity fall to around 25 or perhaps near 20 percent Tuesday afternoon, where winds will be relatively lightest but still breezy at near 20 mph. This could lead to another period of near-critical fire weather conditions in the southwest, but confidence is not as high on Tuesday as it is for Monday.
