FXUS65 KBOI 162339 AFDBOI Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 539 PM MDT Fri Oct 16 2026 .UPDATE...Updated aviation discussion. && .KEY MESSAGES... - Warm and dry conditions through the weekend, with high temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above normal. - Active pattern returning cooler conditions and precipitation chances Wednesday through Friday. && .SHORT TERM /Through Sunday Night/... Issued 213 PM MDT FRI OCT 16 2026 A high amplitude upper ridge currently covering the Pac NW will give way to shortwave energy that will push into BC, Canada this weekend. Saturday is the warmest day with temperatures around 10 degrees above normal, or solidly in the 70s across lower elevations. Sunday brings several degrees of cooling in response to the passing upper trough. Breezy south to east winds will fade on Sunday in response a weakening surface high along the Continental Divide and decrease in the flow aloft. && .LONG TERM /Monday through Friday/... Issued 213 PM MDT FRI OCT 16 2026 Through the week, a high amplitude trough will become a cut off low in southern California and linger in the Great Basin. As the trough builds along the West Coast Monday evening, increasing clouds and breezy conditions in SE Oregon are expected. Residual dry conditions with the wind will support elevated fire weather, though impacts will be minimal as the low continues to move in. Temperatures will cool off Tuesday as a front moves through, cooling temperatures down to near-normal; low-mid 60s for the afternoon high in lower elevations, low 50s for mountain valleys. Ensemble guidance largely favors another cold front on Thursday as the low moves weakens and rejoins the broader flow. This will lead to even cold temperatures, about 5 degrees below normal, Thursday and Friday. Colder temps are accompanied by the best chances for precipitation across much of the area, with valley rain and mountain snow possible. && .AVIATION /00Z Saturday through Sunday/...
