.DISCUSSION...

Today through Thursday...

As upper level ridging builds in through Saturday, conditions will
remain warm and dry with above average temperatures in the 60s 
and 70s. Ahead of a dry cold front anticipated Saturday night,
a modest pressure gradient over the Absaroka-Bearthooths and
30-40kts winds aloft will create windy conditions across the
foothills west of Billings (Nye, Livingston, Big Timber).
Strongest winds are likely to occur Saturday morning into the 
early afternoon with gusts 40-50 mph expected, with about a 20%
chance for gusts to 60 mph. The cold front Saturday night is not 
expected to bring much wind with it, just cooler temperatures for 
Sunday with highs in the 55-65 degree range. Temperatures are 
expected to increase back into the upper 60s/low 70s for Monday 
and Tuesday as heights build back in ahead of troughing over the 
west coast. There is still uncertainty on the track of this low 
for the latter half of the week, but moderate chances at southwest
flow Tuesday is giving the higher terrain across south-central MT
low chances for precipitation. TS


.AVIATION...

VFR conditions are expected throughout the TAF period. Westerly
winds increase across the western foothills after 6 PM this
evening (especially KLVM). Expect overnight maximum wind gusts in
the 30-40 kt range. Southerly winds will be draining out of the 
Bighorn Basin bringing winds gusting up to 30 kts to locations 
such as Joliet and Laurel. Winds are expected to slowly decrease 
throughout the day Saturday for all locations. Most of the 
aforementioned locations are expected to gust into the 25-35 kt
