FNUS55 KCYS 090731 FWFCYS Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southeast Wyoming/Western Nebraska National Weather Service CHEYENNE WY 131 AM MDT Thu Jul 9 2026 .DISCUSSION... Another round of scattered to widespread thunderstorms this afternoon. Our part of the Intermountain west will remain in a southerly flow aloft allowing for moisture to be drawn in for decent RH recovery during the overnight hours to around 80 to 90 percent east of I-25. West of I-25 will be a little drier and recover to around 50-60 percent. Looking at model soundings the nocturnal inversion will setup around 0800z and quickly start to mix out around 12z or about an hour into sunrise. This inversion will keep the winds rather light at night and hinder smoke dispersal. The models also start moving in rain showers into Converse county and Carbon county around 18z with the potential for the showers to become severe thunderstorms around 21z during optimal daytime heating. The chances for a wetting rain will be based on where the storms pass over. Winds will also be erratic underneath showers around 50-55 mph. Friday, The upper level ridge will start to build over us to dry the region out. The winds will be hit or miss underneath this ridge but daytime RH values look to drop into the teens for elevated Fire conditions. Sunday, looks almost like a slam dunk for Red Flag conditions as the 700mb jet will ramp up due to a passing system in Canada. From Friday to mid next week the environment will be primed for Fire development with the promoted combustible environment.
