FXUS62 KFFC 150536 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 136 AM EDT Thu Oct 15 2026 ...New 06Z Aviation Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Dry conditions will prevail through the next 7 days with temperatures warming to well above normal. - A strong cold front will bring noticeably cooler conditions and gusty winds this weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Thursday) Issued at 147 PM EDT Wed Oct 14 2026 It's a beautiful afternoon out there with current temperature readings in the upper 70s to mid 80s areawide (low 70s in the mountains) under mostly sunny skies. Surface high pressure will remain just to our northeast resulting in mostly dry and warm temperatures across the forecast area through the short-term period (thru Thursday). Tonight temperatures will drop primarily in the 60s (upper 50s in the mountains) under mostly clear skies. Low-lying areas and mountain valleys may once again see some patchy fog lowering visibility early Thursday, but improvements are expected just after sunrise. Rinse and repeat forecast for Thursday, with daytime temperatures likely a tick warmer (1-2 deg) than today. && .LONG TERM... (Friday morning through next Tuesday) Issued at 147 PM EDT Wed Oct 14 2026 Well-above normal temperatures will persist for one more day to start the long term period. After beginning the morning with low temperatures in the low to mid 60s once again, highs on Friday afternoon are forecast to rise into the low to mid 80s in north Georgia and upper 80s in central Georgia. Over the course of the day, a strong low pressure system will move from the central Great Lakes towards the far northeast CONUS, advancing a strong cold front towards north Georgia. With little opportunity for deep moisture return ahead of this front, rain chances will be limited, with only some isolated showers in far north Georgia on Friday night. The front will quickly progress southward overnight, clearing the forecast area to the southeast by sunrise on Saturday. The big story for us is that a significantly cooler airmass will filter into the area in the wake of the front, giving us our first real taste of Fall for the year. Low temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid to upper 40s to the north of I-85 and in the 50s to the south. As cooler air becomes more established, afternoon highs will range from near 60 in the far northern tier to the low 70s in south-central Georgia. An upper level ridge will build over the eastern CONUS and the center of a strong surface high will move across the lower Midwest on Saturday night into Sunday. Strong radiational cooling under clear skies will lead to the coolest temperatures of the period early Sunday morning, with widespread 40s and even some upper 30s in the higher elevations of far northeast Georgia. As the surface high moves east of the Appalachians, a CAD wedge is forecast to keep highs limited to the low 60s in portions of northeast Georgia compared to mid to upper 60s elsewhere across the region. Breezy easterly winds will also be present within this wedge. A gradual warming trend will begin to start next week as the surface high moves into the west Atlantic and the aforementioned ridge becomes centered over the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coast. && .AVIATION...
