FXUS62 KFFC 151816 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 216 PM EDT Thu Oct 15 2026 ...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Dry conditions will prevail through the next 7 days with temperatures warming to well above normal today and tomorrow. - A mostly dry cold front moving through late Friday will bring crisp fall temperatures to the area to start off the weekend. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Friday) Issued at 214 PM EDT Thu Oct 15 2026 Surface high pressure and midlevel ridging covering the SE US keeps us warm and dry again this afternoon. Current temperature readings are in the 80s (upper 70s in the mountains) under mostly sunny skies. High temperatures may breach 90 in our far southern counties but temperatures will be similar to that of this time yesterday. A few of our climate sites could see some record high temperatures again today so stay tuned. Low potential for patchy fog in low-lying areas and valleys early Friday with any improvements expected just after sunrise. Though the main story for the short term will be a sharp cold front pushing through North and Central Georgia on Friday bringing highly anticipated fall temperatures to the region. High pressure will slide off the Mid-Atlantic as a deepening shortwave ushers in a mostly dry cold front by Friday afternoon for northwest GA. Latest hi-res guidance is not too thrilled about any precip accompanying this front, this will continue to message a very low possibility (less than 15% chance) of an isolated shower or some sprinkles Friday afternoon. It will be breezy though with gusts of 20-30 MPH during the afternoon and evening on Friday. Though the highest gusts look to be at the highest elevations in northeast GA. Hold onto your hats, temperatures fall into the 40s and 50s (perhaps upper 30s in the northeast) by Friday Night/Early Saturday. Though continued elevated winds during this period should inhibit any frost potential. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday morning through next Wednesday) Issued at 214 PM EDT Thu Oct 15 2026 The axis of a deep mid-level trough and an associated sharp cold front will be quickly advancing through Georgia as the long term period begins, which will clear the forecast area to the southeast by mid-morning on Saturday. This cold front will be largely dry, with rain chances of 10% or less in portions of far north and east Georgia. There will be a strong pressure gradient in place behind the front and ahead of a surface high (1035+ mb) approaching from the Mid Mississippi River Valley. The pressure gradient will contribute to breezy northwesterly winds between 15-20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph through much of the day on Saturday. A significantly cooler airmass will also set up over the region in the wake of the front. Low temperatures on Saturday morning are expected to be in the mid to upper 40s in areas north of I-85 and in the low to mid 50s to the south. As cooler air becomes more established, afternoon highs will range from near 60 in the far northern tier to the low 70s in south-central Georgia. Broad mid-level ridging will become established over the east CONUS Saturday night into Sunday as the aforementioned surface high moves east across the Appalachians. Strong radiational cooling under clear skies will lead to the coolest temperatures of the period early Sunday morning, with widespread 40s and even some mid to upper 30s in the higher elevations of far northeast Georgia. As the high continues east of the Appalachians, a CAD wedge is anticipated to spread into north Georgia, keeping highs limited to the low 60s in portions of northeast Georgia compared to mid to upper 60s elsewhere across the region. Breezy easterly winds will also be present within this wedge. A gradual warming trend will begin to start next week as the surface high moves into the west Atlantic and the aforementioned ridge becomes centered over the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coast. This high pressure regime will continue to keep conditions dry into next week. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 109 PM EDT Thu Oct 15 2026 VFR at all sites.
