FNUS63 KFSD 080738 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 238 AM CDT Wed Jul 8 2026 .DISCUSSION... Scattered showers and storms continue through the mid morning hours. Additional scattered showers and storms, including some possibly severe, are expected to develop this afternoon into the evening. Thursday should be cooler and mostly dry. Fire weather through mid week remains low. Hot but dry air builds in late week, continuing into at least early next week. Highs by Monday warm into the 90s to near 100, which with drier conditions may lead to RH values west of the James River around 25% into early next week. This could lead to some locally elevated fire concerns, especially for areas which have missed out on much of the recent rainfall. The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored. OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed. $$
