FNUS63 KFSD 090848 RFDFSD Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD 348 AM CDT Thu Jul 9 2026 .DISCUSSION... Recent precipitation, light winds, and near to just above average temperatures through the end of the week keeps fire danger low across the area. May see some very isolated showers and storms across south central SD into the MO River Valley Thursday night into Friday morning, but confidence is low. Temperatures climb this weekend into early next week with highs in the mid 90s to lower 100s. Winds also increase - especially west of the James River. With little to no precipitation chances and humidity values falling to around 20-25%, some locations west of the James River and through the MO River Valley may see some locally elevated fire danger. These conditions may continue into the middle part of the week. The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored. OUTLOOK FOR FRIDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category. The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed. $$
