Today will be slightly warmer again (highs in the mid-upper 80s) with minimum afternoon relative humidity values in the 40 to 50 percent range. Light and variable winds early this morning will eventually settle into a prevailing southwest direction through the rest of the day around 5-10 mph. A weak lake breeze may turn winds southeast along the immediate Illinois shore and lead to locally higher relative humidity and lower mixing heights. Scattered thunderstorms are expected at times Thursday through early Friday morning. Any storms that develop will be capable of heavy rainfall which may lead to flooding. The strongest storms will be capable of locally damaging wind gusts, mainly south of a Pontiac to Rensselaer line. Thunderstorm coverage will decrease and focus mainly south of I-80 Friday and Saturday.
