FNUS53 KLOT 180943 FWFLOT Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Northern IL and Northwest IN National Weather Service Chicago/Romeoville IL 443 AM CDT Mon May 18 2026 .DISCUSSION... Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop east across the area this morning, likely becoming more numerous along and south of the I-80 corridor late morning into this afternoon. A few strong to severe storms will be possible mainly in that area, with gusty winds and large hail the main severe weather threats. Showers and storms may linger along the U.S. 24 corridor into this evening. Another round of storms is expected to move into the area from the west early Tuesday morning, in a similar fashion to this morning's activity. A cold front will move across the area Tuesday afternoon and evening, with a few strong to severe storms possible at that time. Outside of storms, it will remain warm and breezy with generally south winds gusting as high as 25 to 30 mph at times both today and Tuesday. Dry and cooler weather will arrive behind the cold front for Wednesday and Thursday. Daytime highs will generally be in the 60s, though onshore winds off of Lake Michigan will hold temperatures to the 50s near the shore, with limited mixing heights as well. Milder weather will return Friday into the weekend, with some occasional chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms.
