FNUS56 KLOX 082123 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 223 PM PDT Wed Jul 8 2026 ...WIDESPREAD ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THROUGH FRIDAY AWAY FROM THE COAST, AND ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH EVENING ACROSS SOUTHWEST SANTA BARBARA COUNTY... ...HEAT ADVISORIES EXTENDED THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING, WITH EXTREME HEAT WATCHES IN EFFECT TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY... ...10 TO 20 PERCENT CHANCE FOR MONSOON SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS SUNDAY THROUGH NEXT WEEK, LEADING TO ADDITIONAL FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS... .DISCUSSION... Sundowner winds are expected to reach 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph (locally 55 mph tonight) over southwestern Santa Barbara County in the this afternoon through evening, weakening Thursday. Warming and drying will continue tomorrow, with minimum humidities to 20 to 30 percent (pockets of 15 to 20 percent) today and Thursday, with elevated fire weather conditions focused today as winds weaken Thursday. The warm and dry period will continue through Friday across interior areas, with temperatures peaking today and Thursday (90 to 105 degrees). Humidities are expected to be 5 to 15 percent today and Thursday across the interior, improving some Friday, especially on the coastal side of the coastal slopes. SW to NW winds 10 to 25 mph with gusts 25 to 35 mph will be common, likely increasing around 5 mph across the interior by Thursday and Friday. Widespread elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions will continue through at least Thursday across all valleys, mountains, and deserts with enhanced vertical plume growth potential, extending into at least Friday across the far interior. Monsoonal will bring a 10 to 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms to the region as early as Sunday continuing through next week and likely into the following weekend. While the better chances of storms will be across the mountains and deserts, there is a small risk of storms reaching coastal/valley areas. The greatest time frame of concern for fire weather will likely be the onset of the monsoonal surge Sunday when moisture will likely be more limited with any thunderstorm activity.
