FNUS56 KLOX 092132 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 232 PM PDT Thu Jul 9 2026 ...WIDESPREAD ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THROUGH FRIDAY AWAY FROM THE COAST, WITH ELEVATED CONDITIONS CONTINUING THROUGH AT LEAST SATURDAY OVER THE FAR INTERIOR... ...HEAT ADVISORIES EXTENDED THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING, WITH EXTREME HEAT WATCHES IN EFFECT TUESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING... ...10 TO 20 PERCENT CHANCE FOR MONSOONAL SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS SUNDAY THROUGH NEXT WEEK... .DISCUSSION... Southwest winds 10 to 25 mph with gusts 25 to 40 mph will be common through Saturday, peaking today and Friday in the afternoon and evening over the far interior. Humidities of 5 to 15 percent have been observed over the far interior today and are expected to slightly improve tomorrow and Saturday, with 10 to 20 percent expected by Saturday. Meanwhile most coastal valleys have and are expected to reach 15 to 25 percent today, improving to 20 to 30 percent Friday and Saturday. Further improvement expected Sunday into early next week over the entire area, especially the coastal side of coastal slope. Southwest Santa Barbara will see weaker northwest winds this afternoon through evening (10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph) and minimum humidites 20 to 30 percent (locally 15 to 20 percent). Temperatures will peak today away from the coasts (90 to 105 degrees), then a slight cooldown will occur Friday and Saturday. Another warming trend will begin early next week, with temperatures peaking by mid week. Onshore flow is expected to weaken next week, with a potential for moderate Sundowner winds and for vertical plume growth. Additionally an influx of monsoonal moisture into the region will bring a 10 to 20 percent chance of showers/thunderstorms each day from Sunday through at least next week. While the better chances for storms will be across the mountains and deserts, there is a small risk of storms reaching coastal/valley areas. The greatest time frame of concern for fire weather will likely be the onset of the monsoonal surge Sunday when moisture will likely be more limited with any thunderstorm activity. Then storms next week will likely be wetter.
