FNUS52 KMHX 080741 FWFMHX Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern North Carolina National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC 341 AM EDT Wed Jul 8 2026 .DISCUSSION... A backdoor cold front moving through the region today will combine with the daily seabreeze to bring increased chances for showers and thunderstorms to ENC this afternoon and evening. The strongest storms would bring the potential for gusty and erratic winds (40-60 mph), heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Winds become more NE-ENE'rly behind the front. The front washes out tonight bringing a return to S'ry flow across ENC. We return back to a more typical summertime pattern with isolated to widely scattered afternoon showers/storms along seabreeze Thursday and Friday. Increasing chances for precip return this weekend with the approach of a front. It will remain hot and humid across much if not all of ENC into this weekend with highs getting into the 90s each day.
