High pressure will move southeast of the region today, with a weak low pressure system and a cold front approaching the area from the northwest. The low and front will slowly move southeast through the area tonight into Thursday, exiting to the south Thursday night. Scattered showers and thundestorms should develop and move toward the area this afternoon, into northern parts of the area later this afternoon and early this evening. Periodic showers and storms should linger later tonight into Thursday morning, with more scattered showers and storms possible Thursday afternoon as the front moves southward through the area. Some strong to severe storms may occur later this afternoon into this evening, mainly north of Mineral Point, to Madison, to Sheboygan. Locally heavy rainfall and localized flooding may occur as well into Thursday morning, mainly in areas north of Madison and Milwaukee. Warm and humid conditions are expected today, with modest southwest winds and minimum relative humidity values of 50 to 60 percent. A southeast lake breeze may occur close to the Lake Michigan shoreline this afternoon. Mixing heights above 3000 feet AGL should occur over most areas, with good smoke dispersal values.
