Today (Friday): Gusty north to northwest winds to 30 mph are forecast today, with even higher gusts to 40+ mph possible at the immediate Lake Superior shorelines. Widespread rainfall this morning eventually turns into north to northwest-wind lake effect rainbands, which will give an additional tenth to half inch of rainfall for most of the UP except for Baraga, Marquette, and western Alger counties which will see an additional half to 1 inch of rainfall by the time rain showers wrap up tonight. With all the rain, abundant cloud cover, and cool northerly flow, RHs remain above 70 percent (except 60-70 percent for the far south, far west, and Keweenaw Peninsula). Saturday: Considerably more dry conditions as any lingering lake effect rain showers wrap up in the far northeast very early in the morning. As skies clear and flow becomes more southwesterly, RHs will fall to the 30s percent for most of the west half and 40s for most of the east half. Additionally, the southwesterly flow will only briefly be light in the morning before ramping up to 20-30 mph (locally above 35 mph along the western Lake Superior shorelines) for the afternoon. In places that are able to dry out more and get more wind, there is a slight chance of localized elevated fire weather (up to 25% chance mainly in the west).
