AREA...Eastern Oklahoma and West Central Arkansas. ONSET...Ongoing. DISCUSSION... Isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms have developed across portions of northwestern Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma this afternoon. Additional thunderstorm development is possible into this evening, and then much of the activity will end by 10 pm. The strongest thunderstorms could produce strong downburst wind gusts. Late tonight, more shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to develop over, or move into, northeastern Oklahoma. This activity may also affect northwestern Arkansas around daybreak Thursday. Temperatures in the low to mid 90s and high humidity have resulted in heat indices from 105 to 110 degrees across much of eastern Oklahoma and west central Arkansas this afternoon. These dangerously hot conditions will improve by late evening. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Spotter Activation Not Expected. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday. THURSDAY through SATURDAY...Thunderstorm and Dangerous Heat Potential. SUNDAY through TUESDAY...Thunderstorm Potential. EXTENDED DISCUSSION... Low thunderstorm chances continue Thursday for northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas before tapering off Thursday evening. Storm chances quickly return late Thursday night into Friday with a potential weakening storm complex approaching from the northwest. The greater storm chances develop Friday night into the weekend with another disturbance moving through the central Plains. A limited severe potential as well as a heavy rain threat exists Friday into the weekend. Shower and storm chances begin to move out of the region by the middle of next week ahead of a building ridge of high pressure over the western and central United States. In addition to the storm chances, afternoon heat index values up to 105 to 109 degrees are possible for parts of northeast Oklahoma and west-central Arkansas Thursday afternoon.
