ONSET...Early Afternoon. DISCUSSION... Hot and humid conditions are expected across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas today. Afternoon heat index values in the 100 to 110 degree range are forecast, with the higher values across northeast Oklahoma into west central Arkansas. A Heat Advisory is in effect from Noon to 8 PM for most of eastern Oklahoma and also west central Arkansas. Take precautions while outdoors today. Also today, low thunderstorm chances are forecast through tonight for parts of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Ongoing showers and a few storms early morning look to spread over northeast Oklahoma, and potentially into northwest Arkansas through the morning hours. A slight chance of storms continues this afternoon for any storm redevelopment, with additional low storm chances tonight from a weakening storm complex approaching from the northwest. Increasing instability combined with hot and humid conditions will create limited severe potentials this afternoon and evening. Locally damaging winds are the primary severe threat with hail being a secondary threat. SPOTTER AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT ACTION STATEMENT... Low storm chances remain across parts of northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas during the day Friday. Chances then increase Friday night through the weekend over eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas from a disturbance moving over the central Plains. Limited severe potentials along with a heavy rain threat exist Friday into the weekend. Majority of the shower and storm chances begin to move out of the region early next week. However, a slight chance of storms remains into the middle part next week ahead of a ridge of high pressure building over western and central United States. Hot and humid conditions also continue Friday and Saturday with heat index values of upper 90s to around 108 degrees.
