FPBA31 MYNN 091102 091102 MYNNYM BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FORECASTS FOR THE BAHAMAS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 A.M. EDT, Thursday, July 9, 2026, FOR TODAY, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 12:00 P.M. EDT. WARNING IN EFFECT: A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Northern and Northwest Bahamas. Residents and visitors are advised to remain hydrated, wear protective clothing, seek shaded areas and avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak sunshine hours. (11am to 4pm). A Dust Advisory is now in effect for all islands of the Bahamas, as well as the Turks & Caicos Islands. Residents, especially those with respiratory conditions, should take the necessary precautions to safeguard their health. A Gale Watch (34–40 knots) is in effect for the waters south of Inagua, while a Near Gale Warning (28-33 knots) remains in effect for the Southeast Bahamas today. Occasional gusts to gale force are likely south of Inagua, with near-gale-force wind gusts expected elsewhere across the Southeast Bahamas through tonight. Boaters, especially small craft operators, are advised to seek safe harbour and remain in port. For additional marine information, please view our Marine Forecast on our website, met.gov.bs. GENERAL SITUATION: The northern edge of a tropical wave, interacting with a mid- to upper-level disturbance will increase the potential for some isolated showers and thunderstorms across the Central and Southeast Bahamas this morning as it continues to shift westward. However, Saharan dust lingering across the island chain should help to limit rainfall. The wave will continue westward through the day, reaching the Northwest and Northern Bahamas by late afternoon and evening, where spotty isolated showers may occur. Breezes will remain gentle to moderate in the Northern and Northwest Bahamas, while fresh to strong breezes continue across the Central and Southeast Bahamas, with stronger gusts across the southeastern islands. Outlook: A second wave is expected to move across the area on Friday, sustaining slightly elevated shower and thunderstorm chances as the mid- upper-level disturbance remains in place into the weekend. Strong surface ridging returns by Sunday, bringing fair conditions, warm temperatures, and moderate to strong breezes through mid-week. SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Rip Currents: Swimmers and beachgoers in the Southeast Bahamas should avoid entering waters, due to the high risk of rip currents and rough surf. Meanwhile a moderate risk is in effect for waters in the Central Bahamas. Beachgoers are urged to exercise caution when entering the water. Coastal Hazards: Motorists and pedestrians across the Southeast Bahamas are advised to exercise caution while traversing eastern and southern coastal roads and shorelines due to possible overtopping waves and sea spray, especially during the high tide cycle.
