EDT, Saturday, August 22, 2026, FOR TODAY, TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 12:00 P.M. EDT. WARNING IN EFFECT: A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the entire Bahamas as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands. Residents and visitors across all areas, especially in the Northern and Northwest Bahamas, should continue to remain hydrated, seek shaded areas and restrict strenuous outdoor activity between peak hours (between 10 am – 4pm). GENERAL SITUATION: Ample moisture continues to pool just south of a frontal boundary lingering across the southeastern US, allowing an unsettled weather pattern to remain in place across portions of the northern islands today. Despite this, a swath of Saharan Dust will gradually infiltrate the Northwest Bahamas by this afternoon, limiting thunderstorm development towards the latter half of the day. Elsewhere, high pressure continues to progressively build while keeping a seasonably warm and stable weather pattern in place through tonight. Outlook: Showers and thunderstorms will remain loosely confined to the northern islands this weekend, with the presence of Saharan dust limiting the severe weather potential and area coverage. High pressure will dominate the majority of the country, with hot and humid conditions persisting as the frontal boundary migrates off the US coastline by Monday. A pair of tropical waves will enter the forecast area early next week, promoting increasingly cloudy and slightly cooler conditions, while steadily reintroducing showers and thunderstorms across the majority of the Bahamas throughout the week. SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Severe Thunderstorm Risk: There is a slight to moderate risk for a few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms across portions of the Northern and Northwest Bahamas. These storms are capable of producing strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and waterspout activity. Therefore, the public is urged to remain updated on all severe weather warnings issued by the Bahamas Department of Meteorology. Rip Currents: There is a slight to moderate risk of rip currents affecting the eastern and southern shorelines of the Southeast Bahamas. Beachgoers and swimmers are advised to exercise caution when entering the water. UV Index: Members of the public are advised to wear protective clothing and sunscreen and seek shaded areas while outside during peak sunshine hours (11am – 4pm), as UV indices are expected to be in the high to extreme range. Saharan Dust: The level of dust may reach moderate levels which may impact air quality and hinder visibility at times across the Northwest and portions of the Central Bahamas. Residents, especially those with respiratory illnesses, should take precautions to safeguard their health. This system is anticipated to move toward Portugal and northwestern Spain through the weekend. 2) Central Subtropical Atlantic: A weak area of low pressure located southeast of Bermuda has a low, or 20 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation through the next seven days, as the system drifts slightly westwards this weekend. 3) Eastern Tropical Atlantic: A tropical wave is expected to move off the African west coast by early next week. This system will have a low, or 20 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation through the next seven days as it moves westwards across the tropical Atlantic.
