Damaging winds are imminent or occurring in Alamagan, Pagan and Agrihan. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides important information and recommended actions for people in the Northern Marianas. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Pagan and Agrihan. Typhoon conditions, including damaging winds of 74 mph or more, are imminent or occurring. A Tropical Storm Warning and a Typhoon Watch remain in effect for Alamagan. A Tropical Storm Warning in conjunction with a Typhoon Watch means that tropical storm conditions, including damaging winds of 39 to 73 mph, are imminent or occurring, and typhoon conditions, including damaging winds of 74 mph or more, are possible in the unlikely event that Typhoon Saudel moves far enough west of its forecast track. .STORM INFORMATION... At 8 AM ChST...the center of Typhoon Saudel (17W) was located near latitude 17.5N...longitude 146.9E. This was about 70 miles east of Alamagan. Storm motion was northwest, 325 degrees, at 15 mph. Storm intensity was 90 mph. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Tinian and Saipan should soon receive the all clear if they haven't already. Typhoon Saudel is nearly atop Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Residents of Alamagan, Pagan and Agrihan should remain in a protective shelter or inside a cave. Especially on Agrihan, winds may die down as the eye passes, but about 20 or 30 minutes later come roaring back from the opposite direction. Wait until you can be sure the winds are subsiding for real, probably late tonight or Sunday morning. && .NEXT UPDATE... The next local statement will be issued by the National Weather Service in Tiyan by 3 PM ChST, or sooner if conditions warrant. The threat for damaging winds from Typhoon Saudel is now zero. Typhoon Saudel never made a sufficiently large wobble to the west. .WIND INFORMATION... West to southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will continue through Sunday. These will then diminish slightly as we fall into an ongoing monsoon pattern. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Surf will be hazardous 7 to 10 feet along north and east facing reefs. This will later shift to north and west facing reefs after Saudel crosses the island chain. Coastal inundation is not expected. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Tinian and Saipan could receive up to 2 inches of rain from the outer bands of Typhoon Saudel as it passes by through Sunday. They may see more rain from the monsoon surge flowing into Saudel that will develop next week. $$ ...AGRIHAN AND PAGAN... ...A TYPHOON WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT... .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remain in suitable shelter until the all clear has been given and the winds have subsided. .WIND INFORMATION... Northeast winds of 40 to 60 mph with gusts to 80 mph will turn toward the northwest, rapidly increasing to 80 to 100 mph with gusts to 130 mph possible. Winds should begin to diminish this evening as they turn southwest, falling below tropical storm force early Sunday morning. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Hazardous surf of 10 to 14 feet along east-facing reefs will continue through this afternoon. Depending on how close the center of Saudel comes, it could build into the 15 to 20 foot range along the east reefs at that time, and thiswould transfer to north and west facing reefs as Saudel crosses through the island chain. Inundation heights of 1 to 3 feet could create some significant coastal erosion, with the highest potential occurring during Saudel's closest approach this afternoon. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS... As Typhoon Saudel continues to intensify, widespread locally heavy showers could dump an additional 5 to 8 inches of rain across much of the area by Sunday. During peak intensity, upwards of 14 inches of rain could accumulate near the center of Saudel. ...ALAMAGAN... ...A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT... ...THE TYPHOON WATCH ALSO REMAINS IN EFFECT... .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remain in suitable shelter until the all clear has been given and the winds have subsided. .WIND INFORMATION... West winds of 40 to 50 mph with gusts to 65 mph will turn toward the southwest, however typhoon force winds are minimally possible if Saudel wobbles west. At this time, the worst conditions look to occur from now through sunset. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Hazardous surf of 10 to 14 feet along north-facing reefs will continue through this afternoon, transferring to west this afternoon as Saudel crosses the island chain. Inundation of around 1 foot with some coastal erosion is expected during closest passage of Saudel. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS...
